Children and young people


YFC VISTA is an FA Charter Standard club, affiliated with the London FA.

The club provides a range of youth football training development programmes at Downham Health & Leisure Centre for children and young people aged 3-11. The club also has a number of youth teams which gives a clear route to competitive football. The clubs aim is to provide a fun and engaging learning environment for players to develop their understanding and passion for the game.

The session times and age ranges are below:


4pm-5pm 3-4 year olds
5pm-6pm 5-7 year olds
6pm-7pm 8-11 year olds

It costs £7 to drop in per week, or £40 for 6 sessions, £80 for 12.

Gymnastics Sessions

The centre now runs gymnastic classes for children 5+. Sessions are coached by qualified, friendly coaches who will guide them through the British Gymnastic Award scheme. Sessions take place on the following day and time:


  • 4.30-5.30pm 5-7 year olds (beginners)
  • 5.30-6.30pm 5-7 year olds (some experience)
  • 6.30-7.30pm 8-13 year olds
  • 7.30-8.30pm 14+ adult

First session is free and bookable with reception or future sessions are paid via direct debit.

Special offer for October- December: Children who are 11+ and not used to doing exercise can pay for 8 weeks for £18!

1life runs weekly trampolining sessions for 3 year old's to adult with our popular coach Joy. The sessions are 1 hour long and they are tailored to you or your child. The sessions follow the British Gymnastic Trampoline Awards from 1-12, through which you or your child can learn skills at their own pace. Learn everything from seat drops to somersaults, or come along to increase your fitness.

Sessions must be booked in advance for the rolling programme which runs 50 weeks of the year. Taster sessions can be booked before paying in advance.

The one hour sessions cost £6 per week and the 45 minute lesson costs £4.50 per week. This can be paid my direct debit, or in 12 or 16 week instalments.

Roller Skating

Fun roller skating sessions for children aged 4-12 with music and disco lights. Sessions include the hire of skates for skate sizes children’s 10 to adult 7 as well as protective equipment including helmets, knee & elbow pads. There are staff on hand to help children with their equipment and to help with their skating.


6.30pm-7.30pm 4-10 year olds. Sessions cost £3.50 per child, per week.

Mermaid Sessions

Mermaid sessions Children who have passed ASA Stage 5 can now become mermaids! Sessions include swimming in a mermaid tail and fin (provided by the Leisure Centre if needed). The sessions improve butterfly kick, core strength fitness and coordination. The mermaids also perform routines from skills learnt. In addition, there is always a Rookie Lifeguard section to the lesson! Sessions take place on the following days:

  • Tuesdays at 5-5.45pm
  • Thursdays at 5.15-6pm

First session is free and bookable with reception or future sessions are paid via direct debit.


Sessions for children aged 3-12 to learn tennis skills with our friendly coach. Sessions take place indoors but can take place outside weather permitting, during the school holidays. All equipment is provided.

11am-12 midday 7-11 year olds


Sessions must be booked in advance, as a course. Courses run from the beginning of one term to (and including) the holiday in that term.

Soft Play

Children aged 1-4 can have fun in our soft play session with a giant bouncy castle with slide, ball pit, tunnel and soft play shapes. There is a soft play helper looking after the session, however adults must stay with their children.

Pool Inflatable

Children and young people aged 8-15, who can swim 1 length of the main pool can join in on our fun inflatable sessions. The inflatable takes up the whole of the main pool and two children can go on at the same time to race each other. 

Saturdays and Sundays

2pm-3pm 8+ who can swim

3pm-4pm for 8+ who can swim (check availability beforehand due to parties)

Sessions cost £2.90

Junior Gym

Young people aged 13-16 can work out in the gym during specific junior gym times where the fitness instructors are on hand to ensure that they are using the correct equipment and not any free weights. 

Monday-Friday throughout the year 4pm-6pm 13-16 year olds Weekends 12pm-2pm 13-16 year olds

Cheer London Allstars

The Cheer London Allstarz cheer academy has been taking South London by storm over the past two years with its fresh, funky and dynamic take on cheerleading. There are currently six squads with a wide range of ages and abilities training for performances, events and national competitions. If you have always wanted to be part of a team then Cheer London Allstarz is for you. No experience is necessary. 

Each session is jam packed with all things cheerleading including stunts, tumbling, dance, gymnastics, chants, jumps and most importantly teamwork.

Please note: Some of the sessions are closed until try outs take place.

Saxon Crown Swimming Club

Saxon Crown Swimming (Lewisham) Club was established in 1975, as a result of a merger of three clubs in the area, to promote and support swimming as a sport in the London Borough of Lewisham. Past and present club members have progressed from learning to swim within the club to national, regional and county champions and competitors. The club while maintaining a competitive nature believes in providing a wide programme to cater for all abilities and commitment levels. Saxon Crown are very proud to have dedicated learn to swim and competitive opportunities for disabled swimmers that are fully integrated within the club structure as well as adult squads for technique development, fitness and competitive opportunities.


The club swims at Downham Health & Leisure Centre throughout the week catering for many ages and abilities.




Allstar Beatz

Downham’s newest and funkiest dance academy brings you the best in training from industry professionals in dance and musical theatre. All classes are taught by Sophie Cook.

In this ‘Street Beatz’ dance class you will learn to trick, flip and dance to the funkiest beatz. Open to boys and girls ages 5–12 all abilities welcome with regular performance opportunities.

Nomad Taekwondo

Olympic Style WTF Taekwondo
A relatively new club with just over five years’ history, Nomad Taekwondo now boasts an active student base of over 150 students. The club aims to provide you with the very best in Taekwondo coaching to achieve maximum results. 

Nomad Taekwondo’s aims are high and will always give you the very best. Its discipline and instruction is of high quality. You will be helped along the way, guided, nurtured and encouraged until you achieve your goals. 

The moment you step through the doors and join the club you will find out why Nomad Taekwondo is different from many other clubs around the borough and around the country.

The format of the class changes on a week to week basis, covering all aspects of the required national syllabus, from traditional forms, sporting aspects of Taekwondo, self-defence and technical training.
