Arts on Prescription

1Life will become the first leisure management company to offer arts on prescription which it launches its pilot programme in St Albans later this month.

Arts on Prescription programmes are being launched all over the UK but this one in St Albans is the first in Hertfordshire.

Studies have shown that taking part in an arts activity has a positive influence on mental health and general wellbeing.  It can increase self esteem, confidence, reduce feelings of isolation and give those involved a sense of personal achievement.

The 9 week programme focuses on different areas of the arts such as creative writing, theatre, drawing, painting and singing.  The sessions are specifically designed to cater for anyone with stress, anxiety, depression and other conditions affecting mental wellbeing.

Participants do not need any arts experience to take part and everyone is welcome from absolute beginners to the more experienced.  To access Arts on Prescription participants must be over 18 years old and live within the City and District of St Albans.  Referrals must come from a health professional or support organisation e.g. Mind in Mid Herts.
